politics and power by Connor and JoshThe first people to come to America were the native Americans. they come over to America by a land-bridge connecting them from Asia to what is now Alaska . the native Americans were mostly nomadic but some (on the west coast) lived in permanent houses, an example is log made houses. the native Americans had many different beliefs, (some only in a certain region) one is every animal in nature had a spirit.
the different tribes (regions) northeast (Iroquois and Powhatan) southeast (Cherokee and Choctaw) the great plains (Cheyenne and Sioux) the southwest (pueblo and Navajo) the northwest (Chinook and Tillamook) plateau (Flathead and Nez Perce) colonies James town- a English colony set up in 1607, not the first attempt in America but was successful French made Quebec in 1608 Dutch also had a stake in the new York area. companies Plymouth company 1620 Massachusetts bay company 1627 Dutch west India company 1621 (each sent colonist to the new world) two other components to this period of American history is the native Americans who were on the land before the colonists and the African Americans that the colonist had with them. 1620- mayflower lands in America and 41 men sign the mayflower compact political and power timeline in america 1638- Anne Hutchinson is banned from Massachusetts because of her views about the protestant religion, she goes to Rhode island because of religious freedom. 1663- navigation act of 1663- an English act that says that most colony products to be imported to England 1673- British navigation act of 1673- makes the office of the custom commissioner in the American colonies 1675-76 king Philips war- a war between colonist and native Americans, it is about the colonist expanding into native American territory. 1733- molasses act- puts taxes on molasses that is produced in the colonies 1754- Indian and French war- Washington lead and won against the French, building fort necessity, only losing to French forces 1773- Boston tea party 1776-declaration of independence written and singed 1776- revolutionary war with England 1797-XYZ affair 1801-john Marshall was appointed chief justice 1803- supreme court decision on Marbury vs Madison (undid the judiciary act of 1789) 1807- embargo act of 1807 passed 1812- the war of 1812 1819-McCullough vs Maryland (Supreme Court case) limited state power 1820-Missouri compromise 1831-Nat turner rebellion 1832-Worcester vs state of Georgia (Supreme Court case) Cherokee nation won 1838-Cherokee nation was forced to walk from their homeland; many died because of the long trail and harsh conditions.
